micro filtration in processing factory
Water bill savings with Micro Filtration System.

Sector: Processing
Services: Site Survey, Analysis and Design
Product: Kemco Micro Filtration
Savings: Up to 80% Waste Energy Recovery and
Up to 85% Water Recovery

Problem:
A large processing factory in central England was being hit by ever increasing water bills. This was effecting their profitability and classic solutions of water reduction were not effective. Also classic membrane filtration was not effective in the highly corrosive and fluctuating effluent stream from this factory.

Solution:
After a detailed survey and subsequent analysis of their requirements, Dunlop Design Engineering trialed a new almost indestructible form of filtration using ceramic cross flow filters. Due to the success of these trials a Kemco Cross Flow Micro Filtration system was installed. These filters were designed with highly corrosive waste energy streams in mind and are not temperature, chemical or dirt sensitive. The trials proved that 85% of the water could be recovered and returned to the process. Also as the water was hot this energy was kept in the system and no further energy was required to reheat the cold water as would be the norm. Energy saving was approximately 65% of the total energy in the plant.

Saving:
Waste water flow 20.00 m3/hr
Reuse water flow 15.00 m3/hr
Percentage Recovery 0.75 %

Total savings in reduced water charges £87,609.60 stg per year
Total savings in reduced energy £21,752.72 stg per year
Total savings £109,362.32 stg per year
Total cost of system £220,228.16
Payback in years 2.01
