The Costly Impact of Legislation. 31 May 2005
The growing costs of compliance with a raft of government environmental legislation is eroding profit margins in processing and manufacturing industry. Research The Textile Services Association has researched cost indices for its industry and reveals the impact of legislative compliance. For example the Climate Control Levy has increased ENERGY bills by over 15%. In addition companies are also facing substantial water and effluent charges. These ‘environmental charges’ are of course in addition to escalating fuel prices, business rates and labour costs. Dunlop Design Engineering (DDE) can help.DDE offer a range of custom-designed solutions to reduce fuel and water usage. For example: - FUEL SAVINGS-The Direct Contact Water Heater is the fastest and most efficient water heating system available, and results in 99.7 per cent energy efficiency compared to conventional boilers which operate at 65/75 per cent efficiency.
- WATER RE-USE-Waste Water heat recovery systems (heat exchangers) can recover potentially lost thermal energy by capturing the heat from the waste water and reusing it to preheat the incoming water supply. Therefore these systems reduce water AND energy consumption.

Dunlop Exhibiting At Clean Show 2005 21 April 2005
Dunlop Design Engineering will be exhibiting at the Clean Show 2005 on June 21st. This show is sponsored by Textile Rental Services Association of America. Ranked among the top 100 North American trade shows, the World Educational Congress for Laundering and Drycleaning (Clean Show) is the largest industry show in the world. It attracts all facets of the laundering, drycleaning and textile care industry -- from single-owner coin-operated laundry and drycleaning establishments to giant industrial and institutional laundries and textile rental companies. Exhibitors are manufacturers and providers of products, supplies and services to the industry. In 1977 the World Educational Congress for Laundering and Drycleaning -- dubbed "the Clean Show" -- was born. It offered a venue for providers to the industry of equipment, products, supplies and services to showcase their wares on a larger scale to a diverse group of potential buyers. Over the years, the Clean Show has grown to attract nearly 20,000 people from as many as 88 countries. In 2003 it was the 88th largest trade show in North America. Covering over 600,000 gross square feet of space, the Clean Show uses more steam than any other trade show in the world. The equivalent of about 100 neighbourhood drycleaning establishments is built on the exhibit floor. Our company will be showcasing its new products, microfiltration systems and heat exchangers. The Clean Show is an excellent opportunity to illustrate the effectiveness of our products with one common interest - reducing carbon emissions in line with the KYOTO agreement and to provide the Laundry and Drycleaning market with an efficient, economical and effective method of running their business, effectively reducing water consumption and costs. Local Business Success 21 April 2005
All too often the local business news is dominated by negative events. It is encouraging to inform your Business Team of an exciting success for a Lisburn based firm.
REUSABLE WATER Dunlop Design Engineering has successfully designed, installed and commissioned the first CERAMIC MICROFILTRATION SYSTEM in EUROPE. The innovative system allows their customer-a very successful independent laundry based in the South of England, to REUSE the industrial waste water from the plant resulting in significant savings in ENERGY and WATER CHARGES.The system consistently and continuously produces high quality water from the discharged industrial waste water.
Since installation the system has saved 1.8 Million Gallons of Water and is on target to save the company over £70,000 in the first year of operation.
Essentially the system saves on water and energy usage. Successful filtration of the process water enables over 85% of the water to be re-cycled rather than being dumped(with all the resultant waste of energy and water). The innovative systems technology ( developed in the United States) can be applied to any business which uses large volumes of water in its processing operations.
Dunlop Design is planning to provide an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to visit the installation in April. Full information can be obtained by contacting Walton Dunlop on 028 92 622 524 or by visiting the website on www.dunlopdesign.com
